Trudy and Jeff Travel East and Discover American History
We have just returned from three week's exposure to American history. Here is a quick overview...Visited Jekyll Island, Georgia, where the very well-to-do had their summer "cottages". Today, the huge homes are being preserved and used for special events and summer rentals. On to Savannah - what a neat city - loved the squares with their natural gardens. Visited Fort Pulaski, rich in Civil Ware history, stayed at Hilton Head with close ocean access. After a brief stop in beautiful Beaufort, we continued on to Charleston (which we learned was a wealthier city than New York, at the start of the Civil War).
