It is with deepest regret that I announce that Daniel Cooper passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2009 of a short illness at his son’s home in Bakersfield, California.“Danny” was born January 31, 1925 in Los Angeles, California. He was a long time resident of Kern County. He enlisted in the Navy right out of high school. He then spent three years as a radioman flying air patrols on PBM Mariner flying boats on the Atlantic and Caribbean during the Second World War. On July 7, 1945, Danny married his childhood sweetheart, Dolores Luglan of Acton California.
In 1950, Danny graduated with an Engineer of Mines Degree in Coal Mining from Colorado School of Mines and worked for US Borax for many years. He rose from a junior mining engineer to Assistant Mine Superintendent of the Boron Open Pit.
In 1962, he became a Director of the Antelope Valley- East Kern Water Agency. He served on the Agency for ten years while they worked to bring Feather River water to the Antelope Valley.
Danny is survived by his loving wife, Dawn Minette Cooper; three children, Bruce Cooper (and wife Donella) of Bakersfield, Gary Cooper of Mt Shasta, CA, and Cathy Gemperline (husband Jim) of Healdsburg, CA; four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
